TEACHING PRACTICE 🧑🏻🏫
In the learning procedures usually carried out in the Philippines there are 7 activity sessions listed in the Lesson Plan:
a. Preparatory Activities
b. Motivation
c. Discussion
d. Generalization
e. Application
f. Evaluation
g. Assignments
Learning begins with prayer, greetings and checking attendance. Then continued with the motivation that I created myself with a simple game that turned into a puzzle. After that, learning activities continue as stated in the Lesson Plan.
2. Time management and organization of activities
The time for one learning activity meeting in the Philippines is quite different from that in Indonesia, the Philippines provides 60 minutes for one learning session. This makes me have to prepare myself more to convey the material clearly and concisely without being long-winded in order to achieve the learning objectives. I use the time I have in such a way without missing any steps listed in the Lesson Plan. I used about 10 minutes for the motivation session, and because I used the teacher's method as a conduit for the material, I used the time I had to discuss the material I was conveying together.
3. Class management
During the observations I made in 3 schools with different backgrounds, I discovered many phenomena that I used as lessons. Having the opportunity to observe and teach at different schools gave me a lot of insight into each school. In general, teaching in public schools is more challenging because the students cannot yet speak English fluently and this makes it a little difficult for me to get their attention, especially in observing the material I present. In contrast to private schools, the students there are more fluent in English and it was quite easy for me to get their attention in observing the lesson.
The students were very active in answering spontaneous questions and those in a series of assignment activities, both individually and during group discussions.
4. Problem solving during teaching and stay at the designated school
Basically, I didn't find many difficulties or problems there. There was only one thing that was my main concern at that time. The differences in preparing a Lesson Plan meant that I had to learn more to be able to prepare a Lesson Plan in the form commonly used in the Philippines. If in Indonesia lessons have various forms according to school implementation, in contrast to the Philippines they use lesson plans which are quite detailed and even include estimates of the answers that students will answer.
Making a lesson plan which was quite complicated for me became easy because of the help of my mentor Sir Jaypee and Ma'am Maya, thank goodness they were always there whenever I needed them. Especially when choosing the topic that I will present for my final demonstration teaching. Once again, I say many thanks to them.
